Tongariro River Flow: 26.8m³/sec Weather: Partly Sunny

Good morning to everyone from the team at Sporting Life - Turangi!

The cooler mornings are setting in while the days are noticeably shorter bringing on feelings of excitement for the winter fly fisher!!

Anglers have already begun their dawn sessions on the Tongariro hoping to find chrome and return back in time for breakfast before setting off to work. 

Andrew, Claudio and I hit the lower Hinemaiaia for a look-see prior to fishing the rip and holy guacamole there are some epic fish holding out there which only adds to the anticipation of the winter runs. Zero wind and full sun led to a hot afternoon, seeing us test various flies and lines. A silicone smelt on an intermediate sinking line was the way to go and we have bucket loads of these simple yet effective flies.

Alex and I are in the shop today with a plan to get the fly display organised for winter 🙏 so before I sign off, consider this as your reminder to get amped for winter!! It should be a goodie!!
