It is an absolutely stunning day here in Turangi with clear blue skies and hardly a breath of wind to be mentioned. The boat anglers were out in force this morning aiming to make the most of the ideal weather conditions we have and get amongst some of the great fishing that we are experiencing on the big lake at the moment. The Tongariro is flowing at 23.7m3/sec and we have had good reports of fish coming up to dry flies while prospecting with a dry fly dropper set up. We can only expect the dry fly fishing to pick up as the day gets warmer.
We received this awesome photo of Rob who is a first-time fly fisher! Rob purchased a 24-hour DOC fishing license yesterday but unfortunately was unable to bring a fish to the bank. With plans of being back in Auckland this afternoon he made the most of the remaining time left on his license before heading home and came up trumps with his first trout on fly! Well Done Rob.
