Tongariro River Flow: 26.6m3/sec Weather: Partly Sunny

Hey team, new staff member Alex here. This week sees a dip in temperatures as winter looms closer. Fish are still holding all throughout the system with plenty of browns around to give even the experienced angler a challenge. With the river still clear, light tippets and smaller natural flies remain the go to. Lacewings are still present in good numbers with imitations on the smaller side providing the best results. Watch out for the next rain to come through as the first of the spawning run will look to enter from the lake, exciting times!

A bit of background about myself. Growing up in Hawkes Bay I was spoilt for choice for flyfishing locations and spent most of my spare time out on the river under my father's watchful eye. My passion lies in backcountry sight fishing, with big browns holding a special place in my heart. Moving to Turangi represents a very exciting time for me and my ever-growing fishing addiction. I'm excited to learn the ins and outs of the Taupo/ Turangi fishery so I can point everyone in the right direction! I look forward to meeting lots of new faces in store and out on the water! Pictured are a couple fish I've caught over the years.

New to the store is the Guideline Nova Fly Reel 4/6, this reel showcases a unique aluminum alloy lattice spoke pattern once deemed impossible to CNC manufacturing, resulting in a spool with high structural integrity. It perfectly suits most setups between that of a 4 to 6 weight rod and boasts a very consistent modern carbon drag system.
