After periods of passing showers yesterday, the sun has arrived again in Turangi along with a consistent but manageable westerly breeze. The Tongariro is flowing at 26.7m3/sec and crystal clear. suspending a small nymph under a dry fly has still been our go to recently with fish eager to eat both the nymph and dry fly during the day. Wet lining has still been productive and has been very effective on the fresh rainbows that have continued to run up the Tongariro as we lead in to summer.
The boat anglers have been doing very well both trolling and harling with either a Tassie Devil lure or a large Ginger Mick or Grey Ghost fly pattern. The jigging has been slowly picking up with a few customers reporting great numbers of fish over the last two days. Small Grey Ghost and Yellow Lady flies have been the reported flies of choice for the jigging.
