Overcast, still, warm and humid. No wind as of 9:00am.  The Tongariro is highly fishable.

Still getting anglers reporting some really nice fresh run fish in the Tongariro. It is the gift that keeps on giving.  Over the years most anglers have given up fishing here at this time of the year, but when you have fished this river nearly every week for the last 17 years, you kind of discover otherwise. There are always fish in the river, sometimes more in numbers than other years, sometimes better quality at different times of the year, sometimes more rainbows at different times of the year than browns, sometimes browns are more readily available to be caught than other times of the year, sometimes of the year you catch heaps of juvenile fish, spring and summer are great for dry fly fishing ....  the thing is if you stick to the river and fish it regularly you generally come up trumps all of the time .... and .... just when you think you have it sussed ... the river will flood and change pools and then you will have to re-learn the river again .... essentially you have a "new"  river to fish.

Seems to be quite a few anglers spinning at the moment.  Some good reports from anglers fishing the small lakes and the Tokaanu Tailrace. Try Veltic lures (single hooks) in red, black and gold toby, black and gold dandy, green and gold, silver flash toby, blue and silver toby.
