Overcast.  No rain. No wind as of 1:00pm. The Tongariro is clear and fishable.

Sorry for the website playing up over the last week.  I'm not sure what the story is here.  Something to do with the web hosters.  Fingers crossed they have it sorted now. I'll try and get the web up and running as best as I can.

Some better reports of nice fresh run fish from anglers over the last few days. Seems to be both the wetline and nymphers doing quite well. I've seen more evidence of some really nice looking hens turning up now, however anglers are still reporting catching quite a few jacks. Wetliners reporting using something with a touch of red in it, nymphers mostly using glo bugs. An interesting report of green glo bugs being quite effective today.

Quite a few anglers have registered for the Winter Fly fest so it looks like it is going to be a busy day. If you haven't already registered then crack onto it. The event is free.  You can register via email at or phone us here on 07 386 8996.

The following email is thanks to Jason Bleibtreu from River Birches.  Jason was in to see me yesterday and went for a flick in the afternoon.  Jason writes:

Hi Sporting Life,

A rainbow  jack caught in the Tongariro middle reaches Wednesday afternoon while wet lining. Thanks for letting me know the wet fly and where to get it.
