Overcast but fine here in Turangi today.  No wind. The Tongariro river is highly fishable this morning. Perter Carty and myself met up down at the S.H.1 road bridge this morning to check the river out. We scanned the water and possibly counted around 10-12 fish from the bridge. Two would have possibly been double figure browns ..... not an angler to be seen ...

Over the last few weeks we have had a number of anglers call into the shop who haven't caught anything (quite a few who have) ... let alone seen a fish.  Spotting fish is an essential tool to fishing.  A good pair of polarized sunglasses is essential and learning to "read" water is just as important as to what fly to put on.   The sunglasses also protect your eyes from UV radiation and also from the odd stray fly that may get you in the eye.

It brings me back to the anglers who haven't caught anything, haven't seen anything and have seen no one catching anything .... quite often a high emphasis is placed on what these anglers SAY by other anglers ..... my advice is ALWAYS listen to those anglers who have caught something !!!  Quite often they have fished where other anglers will never see them and the other thing is anglers don't SEE the whole river all at the same time.
