An overcast but calm start to the morning here in Turangi today.  Looks like rain could be on the way for later in the day though.

Tomorrow is the start of the school holidays, so one might expect a few adults with youngsters out and about for a fish.

I was sent in these pictures a couple of days ago thanks to Michael. A Father and "older" son day out on the Tongariro.

Hi Jared
Took my son Jarrod for for his first Spey fish on the Tongariro yesterday (Tuesday) starting at about midday. Using T11 for a sink tip for swinging wet flies across n down we had success straight away landing 2 out of 4 hook-ups. We headed back to the car for a late lunch and fished upstream where straight away fish where hitting with aggression and tearing off down stream, one fish saw him into the backing just about into the next pool downstream but ended in a long line release, the hook pulling and a son with an expression on his face that said it all! By the end of the day he could cast a 20m line which resulted in a couple of more feisty fish around the 50cm mark. I got to have a last cast fish for the day for 5 minutes resulting in a very fresh 52cm hen which went aerial in a fast tail-out which concluded a memorable day which Jarrod and I have decided to make a yearly outing.

(Below) Some more delayed coverage of my sojourn around the river on Sunday.  This is looking upstream to the Birches Pool behind the Trout Center.  Directly below my feet is the head of the Cattle Rustlers Pool.
