Fine and sunny start to the day here in Turangi today. A Gusty SW breeze blowing today. No rain as of 9:00am. The Tongariro is clear and fishable.

Yesterday was just such an extremely windy day.  It would not have been pleasant out on the Tongariro. Normally the wind will taper off towards evening but last night the wind increased and was just howling !!!  Screaming in fact !! There are a few branches on the ground in various locations and the newly grown leaves on the trees have been shredded with half of them on the ground !!

Today the wind has eased a little and is expected to ease more this afternoon.  Tomorrow should be a calm day.

The wind has even affected the boaties who are unable to really get out unless there is some sheltered water.  An angler called into the shop yesterday and had come down from Taupo and said the waves were almost surfable.

Me, I've been busy working in the shop and at home am trying to get some painting done after neglecting maintenance for the last 15 years while I have been busy fishing .... when I haven't been working , or painting (in between rain showers and gusting wind)  I have been tying flies for when I can get out for a fish. Any volunteers want to work or paint for me ??

So, while the weather hasn't been that great I have managed to at least get prepared for when it settles a bit.

There are still fresh fish coming through the Tongariro River with anglers calling in to pick up the heavy duty fish bags to store the fish in the freezer with. Other anglers are reporting seeing lots and lots of fish.
