Fine and sunny. Cool. No wind as of 9:00am.  The Tongariro is highly fishable today.

I hope most of you had a great weekend here in Turangi over the Queen's birthday weekend. The weather turned out to be stunning for the Saturday and Sunday with it clouding over on Monday causing a bit of snow to be dumped on the Kaimamawas.

There were plenty of anglers out and about over the weekend but also I encountered plenty of walkers and cyclists along the river tracks.  It was good to see people out enjoying themselves.

(Above) Check out how busy this part of the river was on Sunday down by the S.H.1 road bridge. Quite a few anglers over the years have told me they don't fish here because it is "sooo busy" .....

(Below) Four anglers in the "Old Bridge Pool" on Sunday afternoon.

(Below) The river appeared busy ... but hang on ... lets swing around upstream and have a look at the Judges Pool .... not one angler in sight here. I guess a bit of a walk puts most anglers off these days, so if you are prepared to walk you will always find a spot to fish by yourself or with few others.

(Below) The cloud cleared yesterday afternoon to reveal a white covering of snow on the Umukarikari Range.  This should entice a few more fish to run !!

(Above & Below) A little bit of delayed coverage from Friday last week.  Local angler Graham Hamilton had secured some nice fish hanging off the delta which look like they are ready to run the river.
