Overcast.  No rain as of 9:00am. No wind as of 9:00am. The Tongariro is looking fantastic to fish today. Best get out and give it a burn.

Andrew said most anglers were concentrating around the S.H.1 road bridge this morning with it being a little quieter in other places.

We are now into the school holidays. Some anglers avoid the place thinking it is going to be really busy but over the years I have sometimes found the opposite. By thinking that, most stay away therefore it can be quieter on the river than what it normally would be.  Quite a few families concentrate on heading up the mountain to take the kids skiing, or head to warmer climates while it is Winter.

The new Taupo Season Family Licence is proving popular and it has been good to see the "Family Unit" wanting to head out fishing together.

(Below) I received this email and photo this morning thanks to Michael. Michael writes:

Morning Jared
What a fantastic day we were treated to yesterday, no wind, overcast and great river conditions perfect for the 6wt 12.5’ft Skagit  rod. The day was shared with Jarrod (son) up from Wellington for a break from work, hoping for a bite or two, which he certainly got. In one section he got 10 hookups landing 2 and busting off on another as it headed off down stream,
I gave him heaps over that one!  Get  fresh conditioned fish which made for a magic day.

(Below) Andrew was out by the S.H.1 road bridge this morning and saw these anglers fishing hard out. A few anglers have come into the shop so far this morning and said other parts of the river have been quiet angler wise.

As of 10:30am the sun has come out and we are in for what appears to be a fine day.
