Friday 8th September 2017

Fine and sunny this morning with some cloud about.  A good dumping of snow on the Kaimanawa Ranges this morning. A light breeze as of 9:00am.  This may change later in the day.  The Tongariro is highly fishable this morning.

Yesterday the Firemen wound up their annual fishing competition. I think the Boss said they have been running for 30 years now. Last night was the prizegiving.

Numbers of anglers were slightly down this year but it looks like the fish size seemed to be up.  Some good rainbows over 2kg were weighed in with only two browns, one being about 3.5kg.  The best condition factor went to a fish with a C.F. of 70 !!!

Normally they hold the competition in August but it was changed this year to September.  I have spoken to a few who have said it has been much warmer for them ;-) and also there was some extra light with the slightly longer days.

Quite a few of them seemed to be out on boats on Lake Taupo this year which seemed to fish well.

If you are keen to enter it is open to all present or past employees of the fire service which includes any or all brigades such as the Volunteer Brigade, Rural Fire Brigades, Industrial / Works, any brigade that is a member of the U.F.B.A. and also include military fire brigades.  Rules are available on the downloadable entry form.
