Thursday 9th February 2017

Fine and sunny start to the morning here in Turangi today. Not much wind. All rivers are fishable. The fish are just smashing the cicadas, even ducks are beating the fish to the cicadas. Better get here quick !!!

Reports of ducks going hard out feeding on the cicadas.  I saw this last year in the lower river, a duck was swimming along under the willows plucking the cicadas off the overhanging branches but this year a couple of anglers have reported ducks further up the river doing the same thing.

Woolly bugger

(Below) A good haul of raspberries by Jens.  The blackberries are starting to ripen too.  Normally the blackberries cause grief for anglers by putting holes in their waders but at this time of the year provide a bit of a sugar rush in amongst catching fish all day long.
