Friday 9th June 2017

Fine and sunny start here in Turangi this morning. No wind as of 9:00am ( was really gusty yesterday though). No sign of rain on the horizon. All rivers are fishable.

Some cracker conditions to fly fish a present with nice sunny days and so far no wind. However yesterday the wind was quite strong which put a few anglers off.  It makes it quite a struggle to cast when it is like that, however the key there is to seek sheltered spots, or look at alternative rivers that may be more sheltered. An example is one day a year or two back I fished the Tauranga-Taupo river and had a nice day up there with the odd gust of wind but when I drove back into Turangi only 10kms away the wind was howling intensely.

A friendly reminder to those of you who may have just cut your lunch to head up to Lake Otamangakau that this is now closed for the season.  This will reopen on 1st October.  Also the upper reaches of all fishable rivers are now closed. These will reopen on 1st December.

Also a reminder that the new Taupo Season licence starts in about 3 weeks time on 1st July 2017. These are only done online now so you should be able to secure these at your convenience from the comfort of your home or office prior to arriving in the district to fish. These will be available to purchase from the 26th June.

(Below) Andrew doing the morning report down by the Major Jones Pool this morning. Not one angler in sight he said ... must have all been here for the Queen's Birthday weekend ??
