Thursday 9th August 2018

Overcast with some clear sunny patches. Slight SW breeze, cool.  The Tongariro is highly fishable for both wetlining or nymphing.

We got some good overnight rain which the Boss has said put a smidgeon of colour into the Tauranga-Taupo and the Waimarino. The Tongariro is up to about 34 cumecs which is highly fishable.  This little flush will have moved more fresh fish up-river.

The reports might be a bit sketchy over the next few days as quite a few anglers have already turned up for the Winter Fly Fest and we have been pretty busy in the shop.  Saturday's report will not be done !

(Above) Looking upstream from the S.H.1 road bridge at 1:00pm today.  There is a bit of blue sky about today after the overnight rain.

(Below) The " Small Colony " of anglers fishing just below the S.H.1 road bridge at 1:00pm.  The angler in the middle on the far side was busy playing a fish as I took the photo... he's below the big tree which makes it hard to see him in the shadows.

(Below) Another " Small Colony " of anglers in the Bridge Pool of old now known as the Lower Bridge Pool. Quite a few anglers through the shop today have reported catching some nice fresh fish, even from the upper river where there were apparently not a sign of another angler.

(Below) I don't need to go far to find evidence of fish.  I had just pulled up in the carpark, hadn't even got out of the car and saw this angler about to " stash the cash " in the chilly bin.  I think it was three nice fish he had.
