Tuesday 12th December 2017

Fine and sunny. A slight breeze blowing. The Tongariro is clear and fishable.

Most anglers through the shop are enjoying the nice weather that we have been having. Most keen to have a go on the Tongariro River. At the moment you can take your pick of the type of fishing that you would like to do .... wetfly, skagit / spey, CZ nymph, nymphing, dry fly / dropper, evening rise, or wee wet fishing.  This time of the year offers a good diversity of angling techniques.

The hot conditions have almost forced some anglers to wet wade.

The odd fresh fish still reported in the river but plenty of recovering fish that are feeding.

The following photos are thanks to my roving reporter Jens Muller-Buckland. He looks to have headed out over Kuratau way and took some great shots of the Kuratau River mouth. As of 1 December you may now fish the Kuratau River ( consult the colour coded map of the Department of Conservation Taupo Fishery Regulations ).

(Above & Below) Jens also looks to have headed out for an evening rise fish on the Tongariro last night.  We got some rain here in Turangi yesterday around lunchtime but this cleared to produce a nice sunny evening.
