Fine and sunny. Some high cloud about. All rivers are clear. No wind at this stage stage.

I managed to get out for another flick on the Tongariro in the afternoon on Monday after completing some chores around the house. I started off nymphing and got these two good sized fish in about 40 minutes. I kept the hen which had nice orange flesh colour and was full of ripe roe. Both fish took my bomb!

(Above) A nice rainbow jack landed in the Tongariro River on Monday afternoon.

(Below) I got this hen not long after hooking the jack.

(Below) I got a bit bored nymphing and later in the afternoon I decided to change to the wetline.  I got to a deep swirly pool that looked like the drop off at the Delta so I decided to try something different and put on a heave and leave glo bug .... not long after "whack" I hooked this fish .... it put up a great fight !!

(Below) I took this picture walking across the Red Hut swing bridge late on Monday afternoon showing the sun hitting the Umukarikari Range. It was a nice day to be out and about fishing ..... I only encountered one other angler for the afternoon ?? I thinks its great to have the river almost to myself .... having the choice to basically fish anywhere I want without too many anglers.
