Reports are coming in saying fish caught and gutted are full of smelt indicating that smelt numbers are growing this end of the lake. The evening rise has been hit and miss but this is normal and will pick back up again when the invertebrates feel they have the right conditions once more. Fishing on the river has been reportedly good when fishing the edges or faster waters of a pool. The biggest limitation recently has been the weather, if only the wind would calm down! Hopefully with three holiday weekends coming up some great fishing will be had.

Quiz time! We received an inquiry as to what this (below) invertebrate is. If you have any idea or even a guess let us know be email (sport.life@xtra.co.nz).

(Above and Below) The offending 'bug'. It seems to have a three pronged tail but also traits of various invertebrate species.
