Overcast with light drizzly rain falling. No wind as of 9:00am. The Tongariro is fishable.

Quite a few anglers are hitting the rivers and Lake Otamangakau. Andrew reports the fishing has been a bit up and down on the Tongariro. The weather has been the same. The nice sunny days should be good for dry fly fishing during the day using the dry dropper method in the shallower water and the evening rises, however the weather turned wet and cold last night which may put the rises off. The bonus is there is not much wind.

Still some nice fresh fish coming through the Tongariro with a few browns also reported caught.

I received this email yesterday thanks to Jason from River Birches. He headed out on Lake Taupo with local fishing guide Bill Grace (027 620 7326 ). They looked to get into some good solid looking rainbows. There have been some good reports from the boaties out on Lake Taupo over the last few weeks.  The jigging has been quite productive. Seems to have been some smelt around fairly early this year.

(Below) Jason writes:

A good Morning on the lake with Bill Grace. However we had to come in by 7:15am because we got our limit of six each.
