Fine and sunny here in Turangi today.  A very slight breeze as of 9:00am. The Tongariro is clear and fishable.

Wow !! Don't know whether I am coming or going at the moment !!!  Too many things to do and not enough time to do it !!!  Think I need to go fishing ....

Just had local angler Graham Hamilton in the shop this morning who had been jigging out on Lake Taupo and caught a really nice fat looking fish.

I said to him that it was in really good condition and I was wondering if it was ready to run one of the rivers.

He said " why don't we cut it open to see if it has any roe in it ? " ... so he cut it open and we were half expecting to see the roe .... what ??  nothing .... but its stomach was really fat.  I said " I wonder what it has been eating .... cut open the guts and see what's inside ".  So he did .... out oozed a sludgy orange stuff with some hard bits in it .... once we cleared some of the orange sludge we found a few Koura ( Freshwater Crayfish ) heads and bits of their shell. The stomach was really thick too.

(Below) Check out the Koura head in the orange sludge ... looks like a prawn ! THis is pretty well digested Koura and we are thinking the orange colour then transfers to the flesh of the fish to give it the really nice orange colour like Salmon.
