Overcast, grey and black looking.  No wind as of 8:30am. The Tongariro is fishable first thing this morning, however looking at the black clouds above us we look like we could be in for more rain !! In the meantime, if it doesn't then the river is highly fishable today. There has been some great nymphing since the flood as the nymphs have been scoured out from under the rocks. Reports of a hatch mid afternoon yesterday but this activity has tapered off a bit with the flooding and colder temperatures. The evening rise has taken a setback with the colder temperatures.  Andrew said there was no rise last night.  However keep your eyes peeled for rising activity and fish accordingly.  There was a good dumping of snow on the mountains yesterday (not uncommon at this time of the year, we have had snow fall on Mt Pihanga 3 days before Christmas Day before).

The Tongariro is highly fishable and over the last 16 years of working in Sporting Life have identified that usually on average the river is only unfishable for about 10 days a year.  Anglers reporting quite a few backcountry areas are unfishable due to high water.

(Above & Below) The Larsen's are back in town again. Each year they turn up in Turangi to have a bit of a lads weekend with fishing being their main purpose (yeah right!). Each year I look forward to what Tee Shirt they will be wearing.  I think they said they have been doing this for 10 years now. Above is this years shirt, the one below was from last year.
