Overcast start to the day here in Turangi today.  No wind as of 9:00am.  The Tongariro is clear and fishable.

Reports from anglers that there have been plenty of anglers on the river ( you should have come fishing a few months ago when there were more fish than anglers ;-)  )  The angling pressure should increase over the next few months as the runs continue to build.

There have been quite a fews jack caught in the Tongariro River over the last few weeks with not many reports of hen fish.

Chris Firkin from Black Magic Tackle was out fishing on the Tongariro River yesterday morning and caught this nicely coloured rainbow Jack. The jacks quite often get a big red gill plate and stripe along the body and they get aggressive towards the red and orange coloured flies. It is their way of puffing their chests for the ladies.

Red Setters have been a popular wet fly over the last week or so along with red and orange rabbits.
