Fine and sunny start to the day here in Turangi today. No wind. The Tongariro is highly fishable and clear.  There are a few anglers floating around at present.  This is a great time of the year to fish the Tongariro if you want to avoid the crowds, get to fish for HUGE brown trout, also get to fish for rising fish and start to get the odd early running rainbow.  The beauty of this time of the year is you can potentially have most of the river to yourself. The days are still quite warm with usually a crisp start.  A great time to be out and enjoying nature.

Mayflies are still hatching and there have still been the odd evening rises.  Mostly mayflies but fish are still hitting the Sporting Caddis.  On a nice sunny day you may still possibly get fish rise up to take a cicada although most of them have gone. Still a heap of Passion Vine Hoppers flying around.

Still had reports of good smelt off Kuratau / Omori way.

Too much to do and too little time to do it ... any volunteers want to work for me while I get to go for a fish ??
