Tongariro River Flow: 22.5m3/sec

Weather: Overcast ⛅

The past few weeks have brought excellent fishing opportunities in both the Tongariro region and the backcountry waters. Anglers have been landing some stunning brown trout from the Tongariro River, along with impressive catches of large backcountry fish.

Jayden Boughey has been putting in the hard work in the backcountry waters and reaping the rewards with some incredible catches of stunning fish!

Boating season is in full swing, with fantastic reports of abundant catches! For trolling, the standout lure flavors right now are the pink and black flash Toby, as well as the brown trout and Bengal tiger Tassie Devil. When it comes to jigging, the most effective flies have been the Ginger Mick and Pat Swift’s Grey Ghost. Check out Pat Swift's jig rigs here!

Some incredible fish have been caught this year! From all of us here at Sporting Life, we wish you a very Happy New Year! Tight lines and great adventures ahead!
