Fine start to the day here in Turangi. Fine but cloud about with the odd spot of blue sky poking through. No wind as of 9:30am.  The Tongariro is clear and fishable.

HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!  Let’s see if this one is going to be better than the last one !!! I’m not sure about anyone else but to me last year seemed to race by. It’s most likely going to take me the next 6 months to try and get the 2021 date right !

The last few days has seen plenty of boating anglers in the store.  Seems to be a mixture of fish caught.  Some are reporting catching 12 fish and keeping 3 others may catch 8 and keep 2.  That 230 cumec flood in the second week of December may have flushed quite a few spent fish back out into Lake Taupo. In amongst the spent ones will be some really nice conditioned ones. No one is complaining at the lack of fish. Most anglers seem to be catching fish.  It appears that more anglers seem to be jigging at present.

The holiday hotspots around the Lake edge appear to have filled up with some saying they have never seen it so busy. Plenty of boaties using the boat ramps with the usual ” busy time ramp frustrations ” ….in the words of a few “IDIOTS”. For a new line of entertainment, one should put a couple of deck chairs near the boat ramp and sell tickets, popcorn and drinks for the best entertainment in town.

Fireworks were let of rampantly around the town last night …… why the hell not … let people enjoy themselves after the year that we have had !!!

Temperatures are still a little on the cooler side of things for the Cicadas. Looks like some rain is forecast for the weekend.  Hopefully after this soaking we get a week or two of sunny weather which should hatch a few more out.
