Overcast but calm start to the day here in Turangi today. The Tongariro is clear and fishable and is flowing at about 26.8 cumecs.

We had some good reports from anglers fishing the Hinemaiaia yesterday.  Reports of plenty of fish.

Going by the last 15 years or so, we should still get some good runs of fish this month and into October as well, so if you haven’t made it here to fish yet, then there is still plenty of time to come down and have a crack.  The next couple of months are usually great fishing months.  There are plenty of opportunities for all different sorts of methods for fishing.

We have a good mixture of fresh run and recovering fish.  Insects are hatching and fish will be feeding on the dry fly. The smaller lakes start opening up so if the rivers blow out due to high water then you have other options available to fish.  The fish numbers in the rivers are generally the highest around this time of the year. Too much to do and to little time to do it !!

The Firemen are here at present and will be holding their competiton this week.  Seems like around 50 entries or so for this.

Don’t forget that Lake Rotoaira is open today – 1st September 2020  also remember that you need a Rotoaira Fishing Permit as well as a Taupo Fishing Licence to fish this lake.

Lake Otamangakau opens 1st October 2020

Lake Kuratau opens 1st October 2020

Just to note.  There will be a Recreational Release on the Tongariro on the following dates

Saturday 12th September from the Poutu Intake commencing at 9:00am for 6 hours, target flow 30 cubic meters per second

Sunday 13th September from Rangipo Dam commencing at 8:00am for 8 hours, target flow 30 cubic meters per second
