The Tongariro has had a bit of a spike today with works being done on the Poutu Canal and the River is sitting at 37 cumecs right now.

“Kia ora,

Genesis will be undertaking an inspection of the Poutu Canal tomorrow, during which time no water will be diverted from the Tongariro River at the Poutu Intake.

The inspection is planned to start during the early hours of the morning and continue for the whole day of Thursday 2nd May.

Flows will be approximately 10-12 cumecs higher than normal in the lower Tongariro River, including at Turangi, downstream of the Intake.  Please be aware that these flows will be subject to natural fluctuation and generation flow change.

Please feel free to share this information with other river users and to contact me if you have any questions or require further information.  Flow information can be found online at https://www.genesisenergy.co.nz/assets/rivers-lakes-rainfall”

There have been strong rainbows being landed on the Tongariro over the last few days. Kana and I fished the last 2 days and had rainbows from 3 to 6lb to the net. I Euro Nymphed and had most fish landed on the natural patterns and Kana on the small light pink glo bugs.

See you at Sporting Life Fishing Outfitters – Turangi
