Fine and sunny start here in Turangi today.  It is BLOWING a Gale here in town.  The last few days have been really windy for the anglers out on the river.  The idea is to find a sheltered spot and go for it.  Only trouble is on this river there are very few of these.  In the “Good Old Days” when we had big pine trees everywhere and willows in the lower river, these provided some shelter in quite a few places.  Best I suggest you fish with glasses on to protect your eyes and also a hat of some description to cover the Dome so you don’t get impaled.

School holidays start after today so there could be a few families around ….. most likely they will want to head up to the ski fields to enjoy the big dump of snow that we just got.

Don’t forget you will need new season Taupo Fishing Licences ( as of 1st July ), so head online to purchase your licence at the following address below.  We can still do them here in the store if you prefer.

Also don’t forget the up-coming recreational releases on the Tongariro River..

Kia ora,

Following the cancellation of the April Tongariro recreational releases during the lockdown, replacement releases have been scheduled for mid-July.  Genesis will be releasing water into the Tongariro River on:

  • Saturday 11th July from Poutu Intake
  • Sunday 12th July from Rangipo Dam

These releases will be the second of three recreational release weekends this year.  The remaining release on the Tongariro is scheduled for 12th and 13th September.
