Fine and sunny start to the day here in Turangi today. A gusty Westerly is blowing first thing this morning. The Tongariro is clear and fishable but still looks to have a bit of colour to the deeper pools.
The fishing over the last three or four days has been outstanding since we had the flood last weekend. The nymphing has been really good as most fish are now into the feeding mode. Anglers are reporting hatching Mayflies, and now is the time to concentrate on fishing a dry / dropper combo in the shallower water.
A few more anglers have started spin fishing now that the other smaller lakes have opened up. The holidays have seen a few families turn up with the kids wanting to have a crack at fishing which has been good. There’s nothing like seeing a keen youngster wanting to ditch the phone or tablet / xbox / playstation and wanting to have some ” Old School ” fun.
