Fine and sunny start to the day here in Turangi today. No wind as of 9:00am. The Tongariro is highly fishable and flowing at 26 cumecs.
When the sun came out yesterday the Cicadas started chirping. We should start to hear more and more from now on ( so long as the heat stays up there ).
When I was out fishing the other day there were a Zillion small trout fry in the edges of the Tongario River. This will bring in the big Browns who will start to feed on these at either end of the day. A few more browns have been seen and a few are getting caught.
The Tauranga-Taupo River came up yesterday and is still making its way down but today should be a good day to fish it, especially if it contains a hint of colour.
Boaties are still reporting catching fish but still reporting a mixture of quality of fish from some really nice Koura Munchers to Spent or Recovering fish. Still tends to be most anglers jigging but it would be worth a go at first light harling as well. Anglers tend to be favouring the Grey Ghost and Jack Sprat flies.
Trolling still tends to be Hot Pinks, Silvers, and Yellow Lures.
Found: Hi SL, I recovered a nice net that must have fallen off a boat on SH-1 near Tokaanu last week. I want to reunite the net with its owner. Can you put out the word. If the owner can describe it I am happy to drop it off at SL or the owner can come and get it from me. I do not want to keep something that belongs to someone else. Thanks, Jason Bleibtreu River Birches Lodge, 027 202 1608
