The Tongariro hit a peak of 137 cumecs last night with heavy rain and heavy wind.

The winds continue to blow hard this morning and there is flooding on the highway around the Waiotaka and Folk through from the South reported snow and icy conditions across the Desert Road so make sure you make it safely in to Turangi today team. . The river is dropping nicely now and is sitting at about 60 odd cumecs as I write this.

I’m pumped for the next few days on the water, it will be a busy weekend for me exploring the rivers to see what has moved up and have a good old time with mates in this paradise trying to dupe the local trout..

The Sporting Life Winter Fly Fest is going to be an awesome day on Saturday the 10th of August this year. All the latest and greatest gear from the teams at FlyTackleNZ, Manic Tackle Project, Category 3 Fly Co, Feather Merchants and the like. On water demonstrations, fly tying demos and instructional sessions, In shop talks from Anton Donaldson of New Zealand Trout Adventures based in Golden Bay Ways, The Godfather and World renowned Guide Tony Entwistle, Shelen Scout Boyes from Colorado now residing in sunny Gisborne, Multi Time Sport Fly Champion and Back Country specialist Cory Scott will headline with a follow up talk to last years outstanding presentation.

Fly Tyers will have the chance to watch and pick the brains of our very own Peter Carty, Umpqua Pro Fly Tyer Russell Anderson, The weapon Steve Kerr will be in town and Jason Cochrane who I have fished and traveled with to some outstanding locations will be tying up some of his exceptional creations for fishing the swing, These guys tie really really well so make sure you are there to see it. Ross Giggs from Feather Merchants will be there displaying and showing you how to use all the fly tying tools in a fly tyers arsenal, so a great chance to get your head around and master all the tools that you have been pondering using.

You will get the chance to test out all the rods and lines that we stock through the shop with the free casting time where the rods from Sage, Scott, Redington, PRIMAL and Airflo will be displayed and you can chat to the teams about what best suits you.

We will have prize giveaways then Drinks, Meals and socializing time through the night so make sure you have your accommodation booked, your party hats packed and your Fly Fishing Buzz on because it is going to be a Epic Weekend.
