Fine and sunny start to the day here in Turangi today. A moderate / cool breeze is blowing here in town today.  The Tongariro is clear and highly fishable.

It went just nuts in the shop yesterday and I didn’t even have a chance to get to the computer !! So sorry for the lack of a report yesterday.

Seems like things have slowed down a wee bit for some anglers. The low clear conditions will sort the men from the boys 😉  Reports of plenty of anglers out and about with some anglers reporting “I’ve never seen it this busy before “…. to me it is kind of it is like it was back 20 years ago when I started in the shop 😉 The angler numbers should thin out a bit when most of the Fish and Game areas open up for fly fishing on the 1st October and also when Lake Kuratau and Otamangakau open on 1st October.  This will give anglers a few more options.

The Firemen have finished their competition and headed home but we just had another young angler in the shop this morning who reported that he is part of a group of 25!! You might have more luck at catching another fellow angler than a fish at the moment 😉

Reports coming in of anglers standing in the river fishing ….. can’t catch a thing but they have half a dozen fish swimming around their boots 😉

Plenty of fish reported up at the Tauranga-Taupo river at present but in the low clear conditions that have been reported have seen the fish pretty spooky up there.

The Tongariro has seen fish caught that have had horn case caddis in them and natural patterns seem to be working quite well.  Also fish caught on quite big bombs.  Also don’t forget the wetlining too … or as it is called these days Skagit / Spey  Fishing.

Don’t forget the Tongariro River Recreational Release coming up … see below

Saturday 12th September from the Poutu Intake commencing at 9:00am for 6 hours, target flow 30 cubic meters per second

Sunday 13th September from Rangipo Dam commencing at 8:00am for 8 hours, target flow 30 cubic meters per second

An email just in today thanks to Sally Shaw.  Sally writes:
