Overcast with high cloud but fine start for the day here in Turangi today. No wind as of 8:45am.  The Tongariro is clear and fishable and flowing at 24.9 cumecs.

I went for a burn down to the river on my bike after work yesterday to check out the river.  I heard a heap of Cicadas on the way down there and back.  I didn’t see any anglers fishing.  I spotted a few fish off the S.H.1 road bridge but the only things making the most of the weather were a few locals swimming. Still early days to expect the fish to rise to Cicadas yet … not far away though if this sort of weather keeps up.  A bit more rain, a bit more sunshine and we should be away.

Reports of pretty good evening rises from anglers fishing the Tongariro but you have to wait right until dark.

(Above) Looking downstream off the S.H.1 road bridge at the Tongariro River yesterday evening.

(Below) Looking upstream to the S.H.1 road bridge. The vegetation has taken off along the banks of the river now.  The grasses are seeding up.  I said to one angler who had noticed a lot of vegetation behind where he likes to cast … “Learn to Roll Cast”.
