It was a crisp clear start to the day but it has warmed nicely, no anglers seen on my river walk this morning I think they must be having a wee sleep-in and coffee before hitting the river and there is nothing wrong with that.

The cicadas have almost finished but the odd one has come up for a look, running a dropper will usually find a willing taker, especially in the riffles. There are heaps of Vine Hoppers still falling on to the water and the Trout are smashing them, with more rain predicted in the coming days another change in approach could be on the way. We just had a fellow in the shop who was swinging wets this morning and showed us a photo of a cleaned Rainbow full of roe, are they early or late…who knows??

The boat fishers on Lake Taupo are finding better results targeting deeper water with better results early and late in the day.

Jared and I are on deck today.
