Fine and sunny start to the day here in Turangi today …. apeared to almost be a frost !!! A bit nipply to start the day today. No wind as of 8:30am although this did pick up a little yesterday.

Anlgers were in yesterday still looking to purchase Passion Vine Hoppers / Lace Moths … fish still appear to be rising to them and frustrating anglers who are targeting them. Pete has been furiously tying them !!

Good browns are still lurking in the river and will be feeding on most of the feeders that are feeding on the Passion Vine Hoppers.

Anlgers have been enjoying the low clear water over the last week or so to be able to sight fish.  Spotting good sized browns and targeting them. I would say that even though we have had a lack of rain over the last two months, the fishing has been superb.  The clear water combined with the Passion Vine Hoppers has made it easy to see rainbows at work feeding as well.  Really neat watching them lift off the bottom and grab the fly from the top and desecend to the bottom again.

Local angler Paul Atkinson was out and about on the Tongariro River yesterday and managed to land this rather fat brown trout.  Not overly long but very deep in the belly.  He weighed this in at the local TALTAC (Tongariro and Lake Taupo Angling Club) and it was exactly 10lb.  This one would have a pretty good Condition Factor (CF) as well.
