Follow the red link above for today’s video on the river.
It’s good to be back home in Turangi and back river side on the Tongariro River after a good session in Japan.
She looks absolutely beautiful. I had a wander just before and in 2 seperate pools found not a soul on the water.
On the third pool close to town there was 1 angler who I usually run into this time of the year, bringing a beautiful rainbow to the net. There were some heavy gusts downstream, but as I made my way further up it seemed to ease with more shelter from the wind direction possibly.
I am chomping at the bit to get out there and have a play but it won’t be for a few days so get out there and get into it and fill me in on how you go. I will live vicariously through you for now.
Reports of solid fish being landed this morning, so there must of been anglers out early, of rainbows in the 5 – 7.5lb range, so happy anglers. Olive Woolly Buggers and Glo Bugs have been on most anglers shopping list.
I hope everyone is registered and heading down to Turangi for the Sporting Life Fishing Outfitters – Turangi Winter Fly Fest 2019. It is going to be a good Saturday loaded with information, laughs, food, drinks and hanging out with like minded fly fisherman.
If you haven’t registered yet, flick me an email to say you are coming to firstname.lastname@example.org to do so. It is a chance to pick the brains of some talented anglers, try some gear or just hang out and shoot the breeze.
Things kick off at the Breakfast Pool off of Poto Street at 9am with Kyle Adams and Rene Vaz from the Manic Tackle Project demonstrating some Spey techniques and introducing everyone to the new Airflo Tongariro Roll Casting Line before heading back to the store for a day of speakers and time to try all the rods, reels and lines with folk on site to give you tips to maximise your casting.
Peter Carty, Jason Cochrane, Bronwyn Wilson and Stephen Kerr will be there tying a variety of their patterns and passing on years of experience behind the vice and you will get the chance to jump on the vice too with the lads and show them your stuff.
Into the night there will be drinks and food and loads of laughs to keep you comfortable then later into the evening the Turangi Tavern and R U S T Tapas and Beer Bar will have the All Blacks vs the Qantas Wallabies on the big screens from 9:45pm, all within waddling/staggering distance from the shop and events. It is good to be back and it is going to be a fun weekend so pop in and say g’day and get yourself geared up.
See you at Sporting Life Fishing Outfitters – Turangi.
