Kind of fine with some sunny patches and a good strong gusty SE wind which will tire a few anglers out today. The Tongariro is clear and fishable.

(Above) Five anglers fishing just below the S.H.1 road bridge at 8:30am this morning. There is a strong gusty SE wind.

(Below) Looking upstream from the S.H.1 road bridge. You can’t see the Kaimanawa Ranges for the grey gusty snow clouds that are pounding the tops. It appears Hawkes Bay has been getting a pounding but the mountains are sheltering us from the worst of the weather giving us a rainshadow effect.

(Below) The Tongariro is low and clear as a result and is highly fishable today … if you can handle the wind. A South Island fishing guide called Chappie Chapman told me years ago the ” Fishing is to be enjoyed …. not endured ! ”
