Fine and sunny start to the day here in Turangi today.  A nice blue sunny sky to greet the curtain openers ….. We had TORRENTIAL rain here in Turangi last night right … just in time for the evening rise …..  No wind as of 9:00am but this may increase mid day to late afternoon.

It sounds like plenty of smaller fish ( subway ) fish are showing up in the rivers now.  These will most likely have been flushed downriver in the heavier flows from a few weeks ago … great sport on light gear if that tickles your fancy.

Neil went for a flick up at the Tauranga-Taupo river a couple of days ago and saw a few spooky fish, plenty of young fish and reported the main walking track is clear but some of the river entry point access track were a tad overgrown.

If it were me I would be sticking to the Tongariro to target some of the bigger browns that will be in the river hunting out some of the “Subway” rainbows.  If you are wondering why I call them Subway rainbows it is because they are usually 6 inches or a foot long !

Boat fishing has been reported as tapered off a wee bit in the last day or so. A couple of reasons … we are coming up to the Full Moon so the fish can possibly see at night to feed on the Koura and are full and not interested in your lure and also we had an earthquake 10km north of Turangi yesterday.  Also could be the fact boats are wizzing and zizzing around the Lake towing skiiers and biscuiters too.
