Fishing Reports

Saturday 9th March 2019

Highly Fishable
Mostly cloudy

Well we have finally had a good blast of rain through Turangi.

I was caught in it while I was out with Jill and Mike from the USA showing them around the Tongariro. It came down hard in bursts, added a bit of colour to the water and there was a slight increase in flow while we were out wading but nothing too drastic to alter our path or hinder crossings.

She spiked at just over 25 cumecs before dropping back to be sitting at 24 as of writing this report.

I had a excellent few days getting to fish with Simon Gawesworth, Brand Manager for RIO PRODUCTS. Myself, Simon and Tore from FlyTackle NZ had an evening swing on the Tongariro and Simon landed a couple of silver bullets and Tore swung into a beautiful big brown on a black leech pattern using the RIO PRODUCTS 225gr In Touch Skagit Trout Spey Head with and Intermediate Tip on the Sage X 5wt. It was great to be fishing with the lads and it was a day full of new information for me with Simon running and Outstanding session on Spey Fishing Thursday day then a excellent talk in the shop on Fly Lines that afternoon.

Late night Tongariro River Brown Trout

Jules just called in to top up his gear and filled us in on his fishing after the rain yesterday afternoon. 5 football rainbows to the net and a couple for the smoker. All swinging Olive Woolly Buggers. There is still a bit of grime on the rocks and Jules had to do a bit of gardening on a lot of casts to clear the hook of grime but the end result was well worth it.

Myself and Jared are in the shop today so pop in and say g’day and get yourself geared up.
