Highly Fishable

Fine and sunny start to the day here in Turangi today.  No wind as of 9:00am.  The Tongariro is clear and highly fishable flowing at 30.1 cumecs.

Wow !!!  What a stunner of a day after what we have been having …. still a cool “nip” to the air though.

(Below) I received this picture by email yesterday thanks to Jason Bleibtreu from River Birches Turangi.  Jason writes:

Dear Sporting Life,

Silver & Pink.  This rainbow jack was caught at a local river mouth Tuesday afternoon while wet-lining with a dark booby fly. I am looking forward to getting back out everyday as we have great weather coming up.

Regards,

Jason Bleibtreu

BREAKING NEWS

I was informed that quite a good slip had come down at the Red Hut carpark.  It took out the barrier just in front of where most anglers park their cars.  Luckily the Bridge escaped damage and about a wheelbarrow full of dirt landed on the bridge itself. I am surprised there was not a plethora of road cones cordoning off the area …….

(Above & Below)  The scene of chaos …. a broken barrier and a nice clean cut edge.

(Above) Luckily for everyone the bulk of the slip missed the bridge.

(Below) Some Native Vegetation was damaged in the event and  the bridge looks to have only taken a minor hit !

(Below) Looking upstream from the Red Hut Carpark on a stunning day here in Turangi today.
