Highly Fishable

The “Crack of Dawn” cracked this morning bringing sunshine to us here in Turangi today !!  A complete contrast to yesterday with the heavy rain. Still, that is Spring for you. Just a light to moderate breeze at this stage which may increase later in the day. The Tongariro is back to a highly fishable level of 29.5 cumecs today with a nice greeny colour to it.
Reports from yesterday indicated a few anglers headed up to the Hinemaiaia River to fish and reports that the Waitahanui were clear also. If you are here to fish the big river and it blows out it is still worth a drive up to thee two to check them out to see if they are fishable.
The nymphing should be fantastic today and also the wetlining.  In the shallow water the fish should still be able to see clearly enough above their heads to possibly rise to a dropper suspended below a dry fly.  Great Spring Fishing conditions to be had today.
Reports through from some anglers over the last few days of some very nice fresh run fish still being caught but as I have said over the years, this is the time of the year where if you catch 10 fish, the ratio of fresh to recovering may be 2-10. If you hook into a good bunch then that is a bonus.
