Highly Fishable

Fine and sunny start to the day here in Turangi today. A light breeze as of 11:00am. This may increase during the day. The Tongariro is clear and fishable and flowing at 31 cumecs.

HOORAY !! WE FINALLY HAVE SOME NICE DAYS !!!!!!!!!!!! Great for being out on the Great Lake or on the local rivers.

I saw a Green Beetle at home over the weekend.  Now that the wind has calmed somewhat I would expect to see a few more. I also saw a brown beetle as well. It is still a little cool here in Turangi and haven’t heard many cicadas yet.  When we had the humidity the other week I heard the odd one or three. We still seem to be experiencing the odd spot of chilly temperatures and the wind is still keeping things a little chilly.  Early morning is still cool with a nice hot day.

Hopefully with the weather getting a little calmer we may start to hear a few more reports from the jiggers out on Lake Taupo.  With the windy conditions that we have been experience over the last two or three weeks anglers have been preferring to troll and harl.

The following email and picture is a follow up to the nice trout Jason caught at the end of last week out on Lake Taupo. Jason writes:

Hi Sporting Life,

It’s time to smoke our pink rainbows. Adding native botanicals for the perfect smoke. #riverbircheslodge
