🐟 Bluebird day on the tongariro 🐟
We are enjoying a sunny yet slightly cooler morning here in Turangi with the thermometer showing 8°C at 8am and to no disappointment the buzz of the cicada is heard. The Tongariro is fishing superbly, with well conditioned browns entering the river in good numbers and sipping cicadas off the top. Recovering rainbows still plentiful and the odd fresh from the lake being reported.
The lake was looking calm and quiet along Motutere with noticeably fewer boats as the majority of holiday goers have returned home. Jigging has been very popular among new and and seasoned anglers over the course of summer and should continue for the remaining months, with ongoing reports of well conditioned trout full of smelt or koura.
Boys onto the Cicada Munchers
Dead drift or skated cicadas doing the trick during yesterday’s outing for the dudes! Single and double handed rods were used between the trio, and each landing their own browns which have been very common this summer. The Tauranga-Taupo is a popular venue as well, with many anglers there today and reporting a mix of results although the majority find success fishing deeper water.
Tim has been busy tying the Sporting Life jig sets complete with snagless sinker and effective flies, get in quick before these disappear!
