It’s a gloomy start to our weekend but it will likely burn off through the day, the evenings have been warm too. There is only a little bit of breeze to ruffle the leaves on the trees in the mall which should see some very pleasant conditions to fish the Tongariro today. Water flow is clear and steady and makes it easy to spot the larger Browns laying up along the edges, fishing all the available water in front of you will see some action from feisty Rainbows and with patience even the odd Brown will eat a small nymph suspended under a dry fly.

We always enjoy getting positive feedback from anglers that come into the shop. In the last week we had a couple of young American lads here to experience the Tongariro fishing. They were keen to to get a Brown so after we got them up to speed they were quickly out to see what they could find. They came back in the next morning with big grins and photos to show of a a great day on the river, the Brown that Russell landed being the jewel in the crown. They are now heading south to look for more adventures.

Later in the week we had a visitor to our area who only had a few hours in which to get his feet wet and maybe get a quick fish in, with licence sorted he grabbed a hire rod and some flys and headed to the river. He dropped the rod off later in the day stoked to have landed a couple of Rainbow trout and some great memories to share on the next leg of his journey.

The photos of some absolutely stunning Rainbows have been shown to us lately, judging by how our jig rigs have been flying out the door the jigging must still be going well. Trolling is accounted for some nice silver Rainbows. Silicone Smelt and Ginger Micks for the jiggers and green or silver flash tobys for the trollers.

Experienced angler or trying it for the first time we can get you up to speed and hopefully take away some great memories of your own.

***We have in the shop a lost reel and today a rod/reel was handed to us, if these might be yours contact us on sport.life@xtra.co.nz or call on 07 3868996***
