Overcast, warm and humid start to the day here in Turangi today. No wind as of 8:30am. The Tongariro is clear and fishable.
Well, I haven’t heard many Cicadas locally but on my travels around the country have heard quite a few. Heading back into the area it feels noticeably cooler than the other areas that I have been in. Even the Passion Vine Hoppers seem a little flat at the moment. Most places I have driven to I have really noticed the trees starting to change colour even with some of the Oaks and Maples and a few look to be shedding leaves already.
Ok, so what to concentrate on now …… Browns ! Big browns in the Tongariro. Still plenty of reports coming in from anglers spotting some of the lurking ( LOGS ). The up-coming Recreational Release on the 20th will be a good chance to target some of these. Also with the forecast rain over the next few days, this should get them moving up river into more of the town pools. Any chance we get at dirty water will be a good time to target these. Dust off the sinking lines and get them ready for when the conditions are right.
Don’t Forget the Recreational Release Dates for 2021. The 2021 release dates for the Tongariro River are (including the new up-dated April Release):
(Below) CRIMINAL ….. Absolutely CRIMINAL !!!!! NO anglers in the Breakfast Pool or the Major Jones at lunchtime today. Why is it that when I am at work there are no anglers where I would want to fish ??
(Below) Check out that nice looking water. It is interesting that on my travels arond the North island over the last few weeks, most rivers I have been over have been SOOOO LOW and here the Tongariro still has a ton of water in it. I suppose that is why our fishing is always good. We have water.
(Below) Looking downstream to the tail of the Major Jones Pool …. nope … not an angler in sight !!!
