Highly Fishable

Overcast and gloomy start to the day here in Turangi today.  No wind as of 9:00am.  The Tongariro is flowing at about 25 cumecs and highly fishable.

We had a huge amount of anglers turn up here in Turangi yesterday.  The shop was really busy.  Most anglers through the shop had either caught fish or hooked fish and busted them off.  A mixture of fish taken using nymphs and wetflies. Anglers still reporting hatches of insects.

Nymphers tend to be prefering the naturals.  Mostly Gold bead or Black Bead Hare and coppers, Green Caddis, White Caddis, C3 Pole Position.

Wetliners still prefering the Olive Woolly Buggers.

Another report from Lake Taupo …. Red coloured trolling lure doing well.

One of the first customers in the shop yesterday asked me …. “And where would you go Czech Nymphing today?” and I replied ” The Czech Republic?” to which he then asked, “and if I were to French Nymph ?” …….. I replied “French New Caledonia ?”

(Above) Neil was out and about early this morning.  He took the following photos. Just one angler fishing the Troll Hole at about 8:15am this morning.

(Below) Neil reported four anglers fishing way down in the ” Bridge Pool of Old “. The town looked a bit misty and gloomy this morning.
