Overcast and very windy start to the day here in Turangi today.  The Tongariro is flowing at 29.3 cumecs.  We got a little bit of rain overnight but nothing too serious to affect the volume of the river.  The SE wind has piled the clouds up behind the Umukarikari Range and as a result Turangi is in a bit of a rain shadow effect.  Not much moisture, just a lot of wind.

This wind will make it a little challenging for anglers today but this happens in the Spring.  We can get some nasty weather throughout the Spring. Sometimes the weather never really settles until mid to late December.  Still ….. a day off work is a day off and if you are hanging out for a fish then go and find some sheltered spots. The Mayflies that may hatch will probably fly horizontal instead of up !

We had an angler hand in a fly box full of flies yesterday.  If you have lost a box send us an email to sport.life@xtra.co.nz , describe it and hopefully we can re-unite you with it.

11:50am  The Boss reports trees fallen down over the track to the carpark at the Tauranga-Taupo River.
