Fine and sunny start to the day here in Turangi today. A heavy dew on the grass this morning. No wind as of 9:00am.  The wind may pick up during the day.  This has been the case for the last few weeks.  As the day warms up the breeze picks up then it gets quite gusty.  The mornings and evenings have been a little on the nippy side. At least we have SUNSHINE !!!!

So, with the calmer conditions, if I was a boatie, I would be out on the water at first light to make the most of the calmer conditions.  Still good reports coming in from the Trollers.  Pink as well as green and golds seem to be doing the business. We could also add the Black and Gold toby ( which I refer to as the boat fishing equivalent to the fly fisher’s glo bug ).  It seems that over the last few weeks just about anything seems to have worked though.

A few more green beetles seems to be out and about now.  I have also seen a few more brown beetles as well. A few reports yesterday of some quite nice fresh silver fish still coming out of the rivers.

(Below) Check out the detail on the Green Beetle below. As a fly tier you want to replicate an insect as best as you can to fool the fish, however it doesn’t have to be an exact representation that perfectly mimics the insect.  We were discussing yesterday how a beaten up old raggedy fly sometimes just keeps on catching fish but when you loose it and tie on a fresh new one they don’t even want to look at it. So, if you are tying some flies, tie some terribly and they might work better than the flash looking good ones 😉

The Manuka Beetle or what most people refer to as the Green Beetle.
