Fine and sunny start to the day here in Turangi today.  A nice cool, crisp start to the day. No wind as of 9:30am.  All rivers are clear and fishable.

Might be worth having a flick at the Delta at the moment with smelt flies. Good fishing reported there with… no other boats…..

Good sized browns are being picked up in the Tongariro at present. I filleted a 7lb one last night and this one was full of eggs / roe but nothing in the stomach.  Some good sight fishing to fish is being conducted at present in the Tongariro. Over the years there has always been debate about sight fishing and anlgers are “unaware” that you can actually do it in the Tongariro.  We have come to the conclusion that if you enjoy sight fishing then any water you can actually “see” into …. you can conduct sight fishing. Pretty simple really.  It is a bit like years ago anglers never came to the Tongariro to dry fly fish because that’s not what you do here??

As reported over the last week or so most boaties have been pretty happy with the fishing out on Lake Taupo. There have been some quality fish coming out and from what I am seeing this will bode well for the coming river season. This photo below was just emailed to me today thanks to Alistair Hall who caught these off Motuoapa. Check out the fourth one down from the top !
