Highly Fishable

Overcast start to the day here in Turangi this morning. No wind or rain as of 8:45am.  The Tongariro is in a highly fishable condition and flowing at 24.9 cumecs.

Heavy rain is forecast for this weekend which may bring all of the rivers up in volume. Another flush at this stage would be quite good to bring some more of those fish that are hanging out in the Lake up into the rivers.

Get your sinking line ready just in case it does and then you can fish the higher dirtier water as the rivers are receding until it is good enough for the nymphers to have a crack. Bring it on …. we should see some good runs of fish after this 😉

If the river comes up and floods over the weekend I’ve had Tim tying up some super special wetflies for the dirty water.  Call in and ask for the ” Code Browns “…… these may rustle up a Brown or two if the water gets dirty.

I received this email and photo very late this afternoon thanks to Mike Hughes.  A small fish in a rather large pond 😉   Mike writes:

Local legend Mike Fransham { better known as “Corgi Legs”} to his friends holding a cracking five pound plus jack caught this morning. Mike had waded out a little way and was fishing waist deep in 2ft of water when he hooked the rainbow on his favourite home tied Copper Bead Head nymph.
